Preparing Students for Their Future!

our students are the future

Do they know the possibilities that await them? Even at a young age it's important for children to be exposed to careers, especially those in the ever-growing STEM fields.

It's never too early to expose students to stem careers

Even from kindergarten, my students take on the role of scientists and engineers. By first grade, and on, I start highlighting certain careers in these fields as we work though STEM projects.   It's not important that first-graders can tell me the job description of a certain scientist or engineer, but that they understand what we are doing in class is something they could do as a career in their future.

STEM Career of the DAy

With my 4th and 5th graders I play a game at the beginning of each class called "Name that STEM Career".  I give them a description or set of clues about a career and they have to try and guess what it is. Many times, they have no idea, which is great!  I get to expose them to a variety of future opportunities, including ones they've never heard of.

Career inventory

Encourage your students to begin considering how their interests can connect to their future careers. The Holland Code Assessment is an excellent tool that helps students discover which careers align with their passions.

There are 6 Career Groups:

♦ Realistic – “Do-er”

♦Investigative – “Thinker”

♦Artistic - “Creator”

♦Social - “Helper”

♦Enterprising – “Persuader”

♦Conventional – “Organizer”

Grab this self-grading Holland Code Assessment from my store.  This resource also includes career exploration slides that offer a list of careers within that Holland Code area.
